DALLAS (January 8, 2019) – On behalf of its board of governors, The Dallas Foundation is pleased to announce that $1,063,000 in grants have been awarded from its Community Impact Fund.
“The Community Impact Fund was designed to support the pressing needs facing our community,” said Matthew Randazzo, president and CEO of The Dallas Foundation. “Each year, the fund supports a variety of causes ranging from healthcare and education to vulnerable populations.”
Forty percent of the grant dollars were awarded to nonprofits focused on early childhood education, while 10 percent were invested in capacity building – two key initiatives for the Foundation. This year’s list also has several new recipients, including:
- Trust for Public Land will use its grant to engage South Oak Cliff residents in the design process for a new park and greenbelt.
- Grant Halliburton Foundation will receive funds to support a program that helps individuals find appropriate mental healthcare.
- Child Poverty Action Lab’s grant will go toward work reducing child poverty and enabling economic mobility.
- Incarnation House will use its gift to provide drop-in and after-school services for homeless youth.
Applying for a grant from the Community Impact Fund is a rigorous multistep process. Organizations must submit a letter of inquiry and an application as well as participate in a site visit. Potential grantees are ultimately approved by The Dallas Foundation’s board of governors.
Nonprofits interested in applying for support are also invited to attend one of The Dallas Foundation’s biannual grantmaking seminars. These sessions are led by Chief Philanthropy Officer Helen Homan, who offers insight into the decision-making process and provides application tips, proposal structure, explanation of funds and timelines.
The 2019 seminars will take place on Jan. 31 and July 10 in alignment with the Foundation’s competitive grant cycles.
