The Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation awards scholarships and bar study grants to Hispanic law students. The following students are eligible to apply for scholarships: (i) incoming law students who have applied to begin their first (1L) year of law school in Fall 2024, (ii) current first-year (1L) law students who will begin their second (2L) year of law school in Fall 2024, and (iii) current second-year (2L) students who will begin their third and final (3L) year of law school in Fall 2024. The following students are eligible to apply for bar study grants: current third-year (3L) law students who will graduate by December 2024 and who plan to take the Texas state bar exam in 2024.

Internship Guidelines: The Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation invites those law students who are in the process of completing their first- or second-year classes to apply for the DHLF Judicial Internship Program. Judges from the Dallas area civil and criminal courts will be participating. Applicants must have completed first-year law school courses from an accredited law school, including civil procedure, legal research, and legal writing courses. All students in Accredited Law Schools (including the UNT Dallas College of Law) are eligible to apply. The Foundation grants stipends to the students chosen to participate in the program. Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of a four-week internship.

Internships (to last 4-6 weeks) may be done the first half of the summer, or the second half of the summer, subject to each Court’s preference and availability. Interns will receive a stipend of approximately $2,000.00 for the internship.

The Hirsch Family Scholarship was established as a scholarship fund in 2009. It currently benefits dependent children of active employees of Highlander Partners, Eagle Materials, Niteo, BIAMP, Highlander Training Center, Sferra, Benestar Holdings Pretzilla, RMS Beauty, McIntosh Group, Highpoint Aerotechnologies, DZYNE Technologies, and DSS Group.

Eligibility:

• Be the dependent child of an active employee of Highlander Partners, Eagle Materials, Niteo, BIAMP, Highlander Training Center, Sferra, Benestar Holdings Pretzilla, RMS Beauty, McIntosh Group, Highpoint Aerotechnologies, DZYNE Technologies, and DSS Group.
• Be a graduating high school senior who has been accepted in, or a student already enrolled in, an undergraduate program of study in pursuit of a degree from a public or private, regionally accredited community college, college, university, or vocational or trade institute.
• Have a proven record of academic performance, as evidenced by grade point average and/or class ranking.
• Be able to demonstrate financial need.

The Hopson-Laurent Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 to benefit qualified applicants from Fort Towson and Choctaw County, Oklahoma.

Eligibility:

• Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a two or four-year undergraduate program at an accredited college or university
• Graduates of a public or private high school in Choctaw County, Oklahoma. Preference will be given to graduates of high schools in Fort Towson, Oklahoma
• Applicants who plan to pursue studies in architecture, art, or forestry may be given special consideration.

The Mitchell/Tufts Foundation Scholarship was established at The Dallas Foundation in 2014. The goal of the Fund is to make a college degree or vocational certification possible for members or persons active in the life of a Presbyterian church in the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) in North Central Texas, or in Los Angeles and surrounding communities, who are students of promise and can demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility:

• Be an active member or active in the life of a Presbyterian church in the Presbyterian Church USA, in North Central Texas, or in Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
• Be accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled in a two- or four-year undergraduate program in an accredited college, university, vocational school, or trade school.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Have work experience and/or community service experience.

Myra Williams started the Nicol-Williams scholarship fund in 2019 for the benefit of Sunset High School graduates.

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be graduating high school seniors at Sunset High School during the application period.
• Applicants must be planning to enroll in an undergraduate program at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States.
• Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.

The Pickard Scholarship Fund was established at The Dallas Foundation in 2004 to assist African-American male students in Dallas County. Dr. Pickard was an optometrist and founder of the Pickard Eye Clinic. Called “Magnum” by his patients, he believed that if you do something nice for someone and they do something nice for someone else, you can affect the lives of many people. This scholarship fund is his way of “passing it on.”

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be African-American male students graduating from high schools in Dallas County.
• Applicants must have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
• Preference may be given to those who can demonstrate financial need. Personal interviews may be required.

The Robert E. Motley Scholarship was established at The Dallas Foundation in 2011 by Mrs. Morynne Motley to honor her late husband, Robert E. Motely. This scholarship aims to help high school students in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District in California.

Eligibility:

• You are a graduating senior at Rancho del Mar High School in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District;
• You have been accepted for enrollment or are enrolled in a two or four-year undergraduate program in an accredited college, university, vocational school, trade school;
• You have a minimum GPA of 2.5;
• You can demonstrate financial need.

Norma and Don Stone have established a scholarship program in honor of the heroic efforts of Rogene Russell and Doug Howard who have helped students who otherwise would have no means to continue their musical studies and education. The scholarships will assist students From Booker T. Washington High School or the Fine Arts Chamber Players’ programs who show an aptitude for classical composition, instrumental music, or voice, and who have the desire to pursue a college degree but require financial assistance to do so.

Eligibility:

• You are a graduating senior or alumnus of Booker T. Washington High School OR a graduating senior or alumnus of Fine Arts Chamber Players’ music education initiatives.
• You are planning to enroll in, or currently attending, an undergraduate music program at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, or conservatory of music in the U.S.
• You show artistic merit in classical composition, instrumental music, or voice.
• You are able to demonstrate financial need.

The Myrna D. Schlegel/AWARE Scholarship was originally established in 1999 to honor Myrna Schlegel, a registered nurse.  During her tenure of developing and managing 2,500 nursing and retirement beds, she recognized the overwhelming need for trained professionals in the field of gerontology.  In 2016, Myrna, in partnership with AWARE (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education), transferred the Myrna D. Schlegel/AWARE Scholarship Fund to The Dallas Foundation in order to better orchestrate the details of the scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded to nursing students who have chosen to devote their careers to work in the field of gerontology, especially in dealing with dementia.

• You are a U.S. citizen or legal, permanent resident
• You have been accepted to, or are currently attending an undergraduate or graduate nursing program at:

The Sunset Foundation, Inc. created this scholarship to benefit graduating seniors of Sunset High School with a 3.0 minimum GPA or better.

The Tommy Tranchin Award was established at The Dallas Foundation to support students with physical, emotional, or intellectual disabilities who have shown promise or passion in a chosen field of interest. Tommy’s family wants to recognize his creativity and adventurous spirit by helping other young people with disabilities develop their own talents and explore new opportunities.

Please note that the Tommy Tranchin Award is NOT intended to offset costs associated with obtaining a college or university degree. Instead, the award is intended to support creative projects, performances, training activities, and participation in workshops, seminars, and competitions. Creative proposals for new work are especially encouraged. Geographic limitations:  Resident of North Texas

Eligibility:

• You are a student in North Texas in grade level 8 – 12 and you have a physical, emotional, or intellectual disability.
• You want to participate in an activity/program/project that will help strengthen your skills in your particular area of interest.

Awards will be given annually, with amounts of up to $3,000. In cases in which the applicant proposes to attend an institution or program, confirmation of the student’s enrollment will be required. After completing the proposed activity, award recipients will be required to submit a final report with an account of how the award funds were spent.
